DAWSON MIGHT START

Michael Dawson could get a place in the starting line up of Tottenham Hotspur for the Capital One Cup match against Carlisle United which is going to be played on Wednesday at the Brunton Park.

At the start of the season, when Ledley King decided to retire from professional football, Dawson was named as the skipper of the team by the Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas, but, surprisingly, the English centre back hasn’t been given the opportunity to play even a single match in the ongoing season so far.

Jan Vertonghen and William Gallas were preferred ahead of Dawson in the previous matches, but, both these defenders are supposed to be rested in Wednesday’s match. So, there is a good possibility of Dawson being given the opportunity to play his first match in the current season.

During the pre season transfer window, Dawson was approached by the authorities of QPR, but, the English defender didn’t accept their offer and opted to continue his tenure at Tottenham.

When asked about Dawson, the assistant coach of Tottenham Steffen Freund said, “Dawson hadn’t been getting the opportunity because of the presence of some fantastic defenders in the Tottenham squad. But, he is going to get his first opportunity against Carlisle and he will have to show that he deserves more chances. We will rest some of our key players in that match. So, some of the reserves will get the opportunity.”

When asked which player other than Dawson will be given the chance in that match, Freund said, “Steven Caulker is the other one who might be included in the starting XI on Wednesday.”

“Caulker is a special talent. He spent the last three seasons on loan and he is an improved player now. He is a very strong bloke and he has got a calm head on his shoulders. Tottenham certainly has massive hopes with this young lad.”
