Ex-Premier League defender Michael Dawson has picked the best player in the English Championship this season. In a chat with the Daily Express, Michael Dawson went for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Bereton-Diaz who has been the subject of real interest from several Premier League teams ahead of the resumption of the winter transfer window in the next two weeks.
Former Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest centre back Michael Dawson also credited the role played by Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray in the development of Bereton-Diaz who’s now a regular in the Chilean national team setup in the bid to secure one of the 32 spots at next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.
Bereton-Diaz scored seven goals plus five assists in 40 league appearances last season as he broke into the Chilean national team. He has become a different person in front of goal on the back of representing Chile at the Copa America tournament this summer. His form could not propel Chile to the Copa America tournament win with Argentina emerging winners thanks to the 1-0 win over the Brazilians who were the host nation. Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Angel Di Maria (ADM) scored the lone goal in the final on the way to victory as he helped Argentina end their long wait for a major trophy. Their last tournament win had been at the 1993 edition of the Copa America.
Blackburn Rovers star Ben Bereton-Diaz has been able to step up for the club this season in the absence of Adam Armstrong and Harvey Elliot after his outing at the Copa America tournament gave him confidence. Southampton signed Armstrong in a £15m deal in the summer, while Elliott returned to Liverpool this summer at the end of his loan spell in the Championship.
Ben Bereton-Diaz has 17 goals in 22 games for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship this season.
